Suntory Whisky Royal aged 15 years

Review by Nonjatta contributor - Dramtastic:

Suntory Whisky Royal aged 15 years
Nose: Licorice covered oak with lemon and banana. Some macadamia nuttyness and wood stain. Sweet and creamy with soft grains of mainly bran and wheat. After about 10 minutes, apricot makes an appearance.
Palate: Very creamy but with that hint of lemon bitterness. Macadamia nut, licorice, banana, nutmeg and golden syrup. Smooth!
Finish: Smooth, soft grain, creamy nuts, licorice, lemon and some salty zing on the tongue.
General Comment: This whisky wears it's 'blendedness' on this it's sleeve with the grains definitely dominating. If you are looking for a malty blend then this one is probably not for you. If, however, you like a smooth Bourbon-esque style then step in line.

I've had this, bought it off from a collector last year, incredibly smooth. Do they still sell this? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

i have a bottle of suntory royal. got it from my father-in-law. not sure when or where he got it. there is no year on the bottle. 4/5 quart 86.8 proof. how old is it and when was it bottled? it is a small square bottle? 12 yrs? 15? 50?

The key age for a whisky is the age printed on the bottle (basically, no aging takes place in the bottle. So a brand new 12 year old whisky is the same (as far as the whisky market is concerned) as a 12 yo that has been kept in a cupboard 50 years. Of course, if it is a rare bottle from a long time ago, that may not apply. What is the age statement on the bottle? If there is no age stated, then it is probably a fairly young blend (although it may have sat in the bottle for years)

I picked up a bottle of 15 year old a week ago and have been sipping it regularly since then – very tasty stuff. It would be nice if it came in a slim bottle too; I’m not very fond of the clunky square bottle with the massive stopper.

It does come in a slim(rectangle) bottle also.
