But the environment wasn't conducive to taking detailed notes. I was just there to enjoy a couple of drams and talk with the people. I do my all my 'analytical' tasting in my 'neutral' studio at home.Stefan Van Eyckenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01198309838198822144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-132110146005540973.post-27762797905647750412013-11-14T19:51:58.947+09:002013-11-14T19:51:58.947+09:00One expression that I have not seen a review of is...One expression that I have not seen a review of is the 17yo NCF 46% from last year.
I bought 2 bottles and have nearly finished one!
It is very easy to drink & is a whisky that I particularly like.
It's like a concentrated, stylish essence of the standard 17yo.Alan Mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-132110146005540973.post-15378225410752718502013-11-06T18:27:50.752+09:002013-11-06T18:27:50.752+09:00Hi Kevin - thanks for your comment. However - and I didn't mention this in the article - the prototype of this NAS Sherry Wood Finish carried a label with the age statement '12yo' (this was presented at a few events earlier in the year). It is highly likely that the NAS Sherry Wood is in fact a 12yo Sherry Wood, but that - because Nikka wanted to introduce their new NAS and put the spotlight on that - they removed the age-statement from the Sherry Wood Finish edition, so that some of the positive responses to that NAS Sherry Wood would 'rub off' on the new NAS (by association). So, it could well be a 12yo Sherry Wood Finish. At the end of the day, all that matters is what's in the bottle, but it strikes me as a bit odd that this NAS Sherry Wood is so good, whereas the regular NAS is ... well, not quite as good as the rest of the range.Stefan Van Eyckenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01198309838198822144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-132110146005540973.post-20655414961607399042013-11-05T03:41:20.136+09:002013-11-05T03:41:20.136+09:00Thank you for conducting this experiment! Goes to show that just because distilleries are moving towards NAS, it's not always a bad thing.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14644050390934740380noreply@blogger.com
