5th Ghost: Karuizawa ‘4 Decades’ Auction

As of today, interested parties can bid on a unique Karuizawa release. It is a special vatting of malt distilled over the course of 4 decades – from 1960, right through to the final vintage (2000) – which was married for several months. Only 24 bottles were produced of this, and it truly is liquid history… the history of Karuizawa distillery merged into a single dram. One of the things that makes this release very special for us, is that all proceeds (save for government taxes and banking charges) will be donated to two children’s charities in Tokyo: Carillon Kodomo Centre (who run several children’s shelters in and around Tokyo) and Shine On! Kids (specifically their program to provide therapeutic dogs to children with cancer).
This release will be sold by auction to the highest bidders. Individuals can only bid for one bottle (i.e. placing multiple bids for multiple bottles is not allowed). Bidding starts at 55,000 yen – which is 10% of the price that the initial bottle, auctioned off live at the ‘Spirits for Small Change’ charity event went for. To place a bid: simply go to the Malt City page (English or Japanese), check out the 0 yen item and IN THE COMMENTS SECTION place your bid. Check out in the normal way – you will not be charged until the auction closes, one week later (on July 15th at 5pm, Japanese time), if you are among the lucky winners.
Every day (except at the weekend), the current lowest acceptable bid (CLAB) will be updated at 5pm, Japanese time. People can re-bid as many times as they want, up to their own personal limit, as long as it is above the CLAB. The last day, the CLAB will be updated at 2pm and 4pm, Japanese time, before the auction is closed at 5pm.

Is there only one bottle or is this auction for several bottles?
They way I read it - If one bid (either winning or failing) in a day bidding, he's not allowed to bid on the next day bottle?
Is that correct? failing on one day means you can't bid again on another bottle?
How many bottles were opened???
Their should be 24 bottles total so a lot left for auction.
But your auction does not mention how many bottles and your auction does not really mention the way it works!
If their are 20 bottles left, the 20 highest bidders get it?
How can we check?
There is no way to check - it is a blind auction, so people put in their offer. We do update daily what the lowest acceptable bid is, however, so people can know whether they are among the highest 20 or not. Say, for example you bid 70,000 yen. And the next day, when we update the lowest acceptable bid it says 85,000 yen. Then you would know, your bid is too low to get you a bottle.
No other way to tell if their 5 or 20 bottles were sold otherwise
Even in Japan their must be rules for charity check.
Is your charity registered. Can we control this?

And no proof to tell how many bottles are sold to whom people?
And you want me to pay 55000 yen a bottle like not knowing that I have to trust you?
Great whiskey in the name of charity is a win/win for everyone, especially those who need more than you and I.
If one read the posts relating to the event one could see the recipient charities are actually represented online, with the appropriate documentation.
If you had gone to the event you would know that your 55,000 yen bid for that bottle would result in your not having to worry about whether the charities were real or not.
But if you are really interested in demonstrating more ignorance in blind accusations instead of actually reading... well more power to you. We are amused!
On your official page you do not say their are 20 bottles. INternet is easy to update. But you choose not to do.

And to your point regarding Will/Scott/Stefan being the same person, I'm here in the United States while I know Stefan is in Japan. Not sure who Scott is but I, along with probably every other reader, share his sentiments regarding your posts.
It's my hope that this type of discourse doesn't cause Nonjatta from giving up on releasing private bottles, holding lotteries for said bottles, and supporting charities based on frustrations with such allegations. It would be a shame to have one person ruin something so fantastic for the whole.
Did you actually read about Carillon or Shine On? I imagine not. Everything about your actions demonstrates more of your character than that of the people you point your fingers at.
The downside of a free society is that everyone has the right to be an asshole. It is just regrettable that some choose to exercise that right so liberally.
So you are saying that you would rather not raise money for those two groups? That would probably be disappointing for a representative of a charity I heard asking to be a recipient next year.
Am I to understand, Adam, that you are volunteering to set up and run the online auction for everyone involved--with full transparency as to costs (which you will absorb--or course), your identity etc. Because I still know who is involved in this "joke" charity--and can access public records regarding all involved--and yet the joke that is you is still shrouded in mystery.
