Karuizawa Tasting for Charity at The Whisky Show

Post by Stefan Van Eycken, Tokyo

Every year in the fall, Karuizawa fans all over the world keep their eyes peeled for new releases from The Whisky Exchange (UK) and La Maison du Whisky (F). There’s no word on what our friends in France have up their sleeve this time, but the good folk at The Whisky Exchange have just announced something very special: an all-Karuizawa charity tasting with a unique take-home bottle, held at their annual Whisky Show, on 3 October from 5 to 6pm.
There are 5 whiskies at the tasting (1981, #6056; 29YO, #8897; 30YO, #5347; 1970, #6177 and the new release), presented by the incomparable Dave Broom. The new release is a 1983 (#3557) specially bottled for the tasting, of which there are only 50 bottles. The tasting is limited to 45 people and is priced at 6,000 pounds. If that seems a tad steep for a tasting of 5 whiskies and 1 bottle to take home, it’s clear that within hours of the tasting being over the ‘market value’ of the bottle itself will undoubtedly exceed that price… All proceeds from the tasting will be split between 5 charities in support of Nepal.

Follow this link for more information and to register interest in attending. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to attend the event – yours truly being tied up with preparations for another epic tasting in Japan around the same time (the complete Ichiro’s Card series in 2 days!) – but we will get back to you soon with tasting notes for the special 1983 bottling! Watch this space…

6000 pounds ... 6000 pounds.
And as you say, it will probably increase.
It's like "come get a bottle, you have free tasting samples with it".
Anyway at least there is some money going for charity. This is the only good news here for me. "Encouraging speculation for a good cause"
