Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2011 No age statement. 48 percent alcohol.
Nose: Dry sherry, oak, raisins, dark cherry chocolate, figs, Arnott's mint slice biscuits, leather, blackberry jam, bran, ginger.
Palate: Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar, figs, brazil nuts, leather, a mix of dark jams, mint, dry sherry, bran, oak. Nicely punchy.
Finish: Medium length. An excellent balance of sweet and dry flavours.
General comment: A superbly crafted whisky.

This sounds like a real winner. I love Arnott's mint slice biscuits. What a mouth watering and descriptive review. I can almost taste it now! Love the sound of the nose.

Check the label of the TWE bottling, don't think it's the 2011
but I'd email TWE to confirm. I have not had the 2010.

There is a 2010 version? I wasn't aware of that. How do you differentiate the 2009 and 2010 bottle?

Yes, I saw that on TWE - it's got to be the older bottling (hefty price + no mention of 2011 on the bottle).

Well it may be just an assumption on my part that there was an '10 as I tried the '09 at the beginning of '09. Figured as there is a 2011 the one selling in '10 was bottled that year.

Surprisingly, a local liquor shop in Yokosuka had this on the shelf so I bought it. I don’t normally pay that much for a bottle of whisky but I think I went temporarily insane and gladly forked over 9950 yen for it. Just a few comments: I think this is the darkest whisky I’ve ever tasted; it’s as dark as root beer. It tastes like chocolate to me, so much so that my wife and I have nicknamed it “The Chocolate Whisky”. Lastly, I normally add a splash of water to my whisky but not with this stuff. On the rocks is ok, but water seems to just ruin it for me. All-in-all, this is pretty tasty, I like it and my wife loves it.

i live in thailand and i am dying to get my hands of a bottle of this, mostly for curiosity and to widen my japanese single malt experience. now i have to say that the yamazaki 18 was toooooo chocolaty for me, if i want a mars barr i buy one:)...would i be not happy with this one for its price tag, or is it worth the try???

Alright there definitely is a 2010 version. The 2009 has no statement of the bottling year, the 2011 on the front label and the 2010 on the back label as seen here http://www.abload.de/img/rock_town205-img450x63ykrp.jpg
