Akashi (White Oak) 5yo Single Cask for Shinanoya
Post by Stefan Van Eycken, Tokyo
The guys at Shinanoya have been busy lately. Hot on the heels of their recent ‘Game V’ (Hanyu 2000/2013, Mizunara Wood Finish), they have just launched a single cask ‘Akashi’ (from White Oak Distillery). It’s a 5-year old, matured in a bourbon (ex-Wild Turkey) cask and bottled at cask-strength (which always seems to be 58% there, regardless of age – I don’t know how they do it). This is, in fact, a sister cask (#1130) of the cask bottled for Hanshin Department Store in Osaka (#1129). The latter failed to impress us; here’s hoping the new Shinanoya release doesn’t display too much family resemblance.
