Suntory to Acquire Beam

It's just been announced that Suntory Holdings will be acquiring Beam. As we reported before, Suntory's interest in Beam was an open secret. Now that a definitive agreement has been reached, Suntory will be occupying a global leadership position (#3 to be precise) in premium spirits across key categories. As far as whisky is concerned, this means that - in addition to their Japanese whisky portfolio and Bowmore - they will have some of the most prominent bourbons (Jim Beam, Maker's Mark and Knob Creek), Canadian Club whisky and... Laphroaig under their wings. Exciting times at Suntory.
